Custom record Name field

When creating a custom record and including the 'Name' field, it will always be the Name field that can only be used as List>Record type of a custom field.

If my custom record goes like this...

Name.......Category

StoreA.....Retail
StoreB.....Retail
StoreC.....Wholesale

...how can I use the Category to be a List>Record type of a custom field?
