Custom transaction Column field - not storing value

I have a transaction column field that is a formula, that is not storing the value, and it displays the values correctly in in edit mode. However, as soon as I save the transaction, the field does not display anything! It is basically bringing three fields together to save display room on the invoice:

CONCAT(to_char({options}), CONCAT(to_char( {custcol_casing_custom_colour}),  to_char({custcol_stone_custom_colour})))

Any help greatly appreciated.
