Adding Customer w/ Custom Field

I am trying to add a customer and put their CustomerNumber from an external system into a Custom Field. I am using  VS 2005 - VB.NET.

I get a message in my development environment that customFieldList() is not defined.

Here's my code:

 'Set CustomerNumber into CustEntity1  Dim customFieldList As NetsuiteService.com.netsuite.webservices.customFieldList() = New NetsuiteService.com.netsuite.webservices.CustomFieldList()    Dim stringCustomFieldRef As NetsuiteService.com.netsuite.webservices.StringCustomFieldRef = New NetsuiteService.com.netsuite.webservices.StringCustomFieldRef                        stringCustomFieldRef.internalId = 1    customFieldList.setCustomField(stringCustomFieldRef)    customer.customFieldList = customFieldList


Error on first line.
