Promotion Record Creation

Hello All,
We have to create promotion records for sales items for the POS system.  We are writing a scheduled script to create these records.  I don't see how to add the item to the record via a script.  Looking at the record browser only lists item as a tab not as a sublist or field.  How do we add the item to the record?
