Is the "mass update" option the "in-line Edit" a search list and delete by highlighting all the records needed to delete and then the left dropdown to "Delete Record". I'm able to delete about 150 records at a time this way.

Thanks for the advice Olivier. I figured out why it wasn't setting the field value and it was obviously like I thought it was. The code was fine but I had set the function to After Submit instead of Before Submit so it couldn't set the field.
