Tower versus Gross Requirement Inquiry

Can someone tell me why you would use the Tower rather than the Gross requirement inquiry ?   I don't see any benefit at all as it doesn't give you any detail or information ?   Also, has anyone figured out a way to be able to get a "snapshot" for all or a selected group of items rather than having to enter one by one ?  Maybe a search/report or ?   Doing an inquiry one by one is basically useless.
