Is it possible to make the Win/Loss Reason field mandatory when a SO is created?

When a Sales Order is created from a Quote linked to an Opportunity, it changes the Opportunity to 'Closed Won', is it possible to open up the Opportunity and make the Win/Loss Reason field mandatory so that our sales reps are forced to enter a value?  Can this be done with a workflow?
