Possible through a Workflow...or is this a Script project?

I just finished my first workflow that triggers a thank you message to be delivered after a Sales Order has been completely fulfilled and billed.  Pretty awesome stuff.

My question is whether it is feasible to also create actions based on what was on that sales order/item fulfillment record.  In other words, could you write an action that looks for a "chair" on an order, and then triggers an email with information on how to care for that product?

Is that just too unrelated to the actual "transaction" record...or is there another elegant way to accomplish this?

Ideas anyone?
