Deleting attached PDFs from a copied assembly

I have a simple workflow set to reset certain fields to null when "copying" an assembly item to create a new, similar item.  I have also included a pop-up alert to remind users to delete any PDF's that might be item-specific to the original Assembly item's BOM.  Unfortunately, some still slide through - attaching incorrect specs to the new item.  Would anyone be able to help me add something to the workflow to eliminate any PDF attachments when the event type is copy?
