SQL terms and Search Keywords

I am trying to use workflow to populate the search keywords by combining the contents of some custom fields, but I am having a few problems.

mpn = 00033
field1 = BLUE

CONCAT({mpn],[field1}) produces: 33BLUE

CONCAT({mpn," ",{field1}) produces : ERROR in formula

Desired result: 00033 BLUE

Is there a way to get this to work?
