Creating new records from a workflow

Hi Guys,

I having an issue trying to automate a good chunk of our booking process.

What i have been asked to do is create a button or link on a custom record that automatically takes the data in the custom record and uses it to create a new company and a new primary contact.

The custom record has an online form that is completed by the customer and we use that information to create the customer and contact (we used to use cases but it doesn't work for our needs so changed to a custom record)

So far i have tried two different methods:
