uploading a custom record's XML definition via the UI

So we have a custom record we've set up in our Sandbox, and we want to move it to production.

We don't have the latest SuiteCloud IDE set up with SDF support, but one can download an XML definition of the record through the UI. ... just pick "Download XML" from the Actions menu.  But there doesn't seem to be any corresponding upload.  Why bother providing the download option if there's no way to upload ?
