Today SDF let me down - dependancy hell

I was trying to make some bulk changes in a deployed workflow. 

I created my feature branch (see other posts) and was willing to do some modifications in the UI (launched by SuiteCloud) but the browser kept crashing.  Looks like there is a bug related to the multi-modal interface that the worflow editor uses.  Ok fine, my workflow was mostly done so I could modify the xml.

mostly I was updating labels and descriptions on things.

When I went to deploy I quickly got into dependency hell.  Is there a way to tell SDF that I don't care about the whole dependency chain?
