Service Items in Project Tasks

It looks like we have to setup new service items in order for them to be available in the project tasks as a drop-down.

The existing items will only show-up if the "Create Project" box is checked.  My understnding is that this function (Create Project) will be deprecated in the future.  Therefore, it would seem logical to set-up new items instead of using the existing ones.

Using new items would create a bit of a problem with historical item based reports.

Any thoughts?
