Copying Projects - Customer/Parent Field

We often run projects that are quite similar in nature and deliverable for various clients. We have made some "templates" of projects that do not have a customer record associated with them. This allows us to use the "make copy" function to give us a starting point. However there are some cases where we have updated a project for a particular client, and want to use the new project as a template for another client.

The main issue I have is that the new project remains attached the previous customers record and shows as a related project record against them as I do not have access to update the customer record on the project main form.
