Project Task Saved Search unable to send email alert when task completed

I'm trying to set up an email alert to go out when a Project Task status is marked as completed.  I created a saved search to identify the completed tasks, but the email will just not fire.  I then read from NetSuite documentation that email alerts may not be available on Project Task saved searches.  Is that true and how else can I do something like this?
