Elimination Questions

I need help getting the following questions answered for a client:

At the end of each period, our client would have to create some elimination entries using the elimination subsidiaries - What is the best way to identify the amount of this entry for each period?

How do we get a summary of all the Intercompany transactions for a period?

Our client is suggesting using a unique GL account to collect the inter-company transaction - Is there a better way?

Once the amount is identified - do you use Regular Journal Entries to post to the Elimination sub, or do we have to use Inter Company journal entries?
