Separate Intercompany accounts per sub

It has been a practice in our company to have separate intercompany (IE, A/R) per sub mapping

IE In SubA,
Intercompany A/R -SubB
Intercompany A/R-Sub C

In Sub B/
Intercompany A/R-Sub/C

I can't imagine this is required for any reason, just a historical practice, but it seems this level of detail is better suited for the A/R reports.

Is this correct it is not needed for any reason?
