How to Achieve Landing Pages with Different Layouts

I'm developing an SCA Aconcagua site and also using SMT. I'm wondering what the best practice is for making different layouts for landing pages. I know I can customize the template and css for landing pages in the theme, but what I'm wondering is if I can have a few different versions of landing page templates for the user to choose from. Or, should that be covered by adding custom content types? I know you have to develop those as extensions and I'm wondering if there is an easier way to allow users to have different layouts on different landing
