ignoreFieldChange option on setValue

Hey guys. Really stupid question. If we set ignoreFieldChange option to true and have your script change the value on the same field you JUST triggered the field change, will it work?
For example, you change the memo field, upon field change, you translate that to another language and update the same memo field with new translated value with ignoreFieldChange option set to true.  I would think it will ignore it but it ends up firing and erroring out. 

Anyone from @NetSuite answer this?
