Netsuite 2.5 (SuiteTalk) API documentation: availability?

I'm kind of a SuiteTalk newbie and I need to code an application using Java  to access Netsuite (2.5) via webservices. I've downloaded the WebservicesPlatformGuide to try and get started (by writing a very simple login routine) but noticed that a lot of the sample code and functions seem outdated.  Are there more up to date sample applications/api docs available?
