Disable Reuse of Document Numbers

Would anyone know if there is a setting to prevent the reuse of document numbers? This assumes auto number is turned on.

For example, if you create purchase order 12345, delete purchase order 12345, create a new purchase order it will be 12345.

Anyone have any ideas on how to prevent this?
