Anyone doing Payment Plans for Customers

We are thinking about doing a payment plan for end user customers.  In other words they would have the option to pay 6 equal monthly paymens of $49.95.  Just from working with NS, best I can tell I would need them to be invoiced customers and then just accept payment at the 30 day intervals by storing their credit card information or accepting checks.  A little worried about the transaction fees and the administrative work, but CEO says we need to do it.  Anyone have any experience in doing this and any guidance they can offer?
