Duplicate Merge Affects Global Subscription Status

Just merged a couple of duplicate records.

Creation date on one was 8/15/05 (confirmed opt-in), the other 10/01/08 (soft opt-in). 

Our current practice is to merge the newer record into the older record, as we want to easily see the original date we acquired the customer.

Much to my dismay, the Master record now says Soft Opt-in, with no way of changing it back to its original Confirmed Opt-in.:eek:

Is there a work-around for this??
