Transaction Price Adjusments

We're trying to figure out if there's a way to process transaction price adjustments without effecting inventory numbers. 

Currently we're processing a credit memo for the full transaction amount and rebilling it out at the adjusted price, but we would like to know if there's a way to just process a flat credit and not effect inventory for the item(s).

Any information is appreciated.
