Allocation Journal Entries

I have a requirement to run P&L's by Dept each month and as such I use the allocation journal entries to help split out my firm wide expenses.  The only thing is that i cannot get the name of the vendor to show up in the allocation field at the depratment level.  It does not make sense to set up an allocation template by Vendor as that will cause me to create 1,000,0000,0000 templates and that is just as much work as splitting out the vendors by line so i had the idea setting up allocations by head count of
