Disable Owner Record

Hello.

I have a customer where the owner record (internal id -5) is for an employee who is leaving the company. The owners are not involved in day-to-day operations anymore and don't log in to Netsuite.
Does that user have to stay active and have access?

Are there any implications of removing access from it as long as the email is a real email that could be used to contact someone from the company?
