issuing inventory items to projects/jobs

Hi,

I'm looking for a way to issue inventory items to projects/jobs in a way that simply removes the item quantity from inventory and posts the cost of the item on the project as an additional cost.   I don't need to create a separate PO to purchase items for the project because the items are already in inventory, nor do I want to create a sales order/invoice because the items are not be billed separately but rather recorded as a project cost.  Doable?  Suggestions?  Thanks.
