SQL statements in Global Search

In SuiteAnswers 8407 "Tips for Effective Global Searches" they mention using SQL statements in Global Search. One of the examples is: SELECT * FROM Customers WHERE City LIKE 'Minn%'; Of course this looked interesting to me but I can't seem to get it to work. Wondering if this is real and the doc is incomplete or if I'm just doing something wrong.
