NS Procurement without NS Sales Orders or Order Fulfillment

Our company is looking to implement procure to pay. However, customer orders and fulfillment are managed through another applications that is already in place. Therefore, there would not be real time updates of inventory as it is depleted. Has anybody done something similar? How do you keep track of inventory levels n NetSuite? It would be helpful to know your approach, potential pitfalls and best practices.
