Advanced Template formatting questions

I am creating a custom EFT file template and I have a couple of questions.
    1. I need to have a tab delimited file.  I have tried to insert a tabs between each field but it does not come out as a tab in the file any ideas?
    2. I need to remove the ()- from the phone numbers any ideas?
