Soft Descriptor - for the Transaction Level

Is there a way to have a soft descriptor for the transaction level, opposed to the item level?  For for instance, we have two sales orders form.  One for company A, the other for company B.  Would like to be able to set the soft descriptors based off of the sales order form for company A and B, not the item level.
