corrupt user account?

My boss' netsuite user account has an issue where it cannot view the Income Statement - Detail report when his reporting settings are set to to report by period. When he clicks on the link to the report he gets this message. " The default accounting period for this report has not been defined. Please visit 'Setup > Accounting > Manage Accounting Periods' to define this period or set up your year. "  The problem is that the reporting periods are set up already. This happens with every role that is assigned to his account. I have even tried removing
