Global search for Numeric PO's not possible?

Hi June (or anyone else):

Why is it that the global search doesn't pick up numerical PO numbers?  I'm noticing that if a customer has given us a PO# of 'M377196500010' global search can find this transaction using the PO# as the sole criteria.

But a sales order with a numerical PO# such as '329960058' will not be found.  I'd have to use the transaction search instead of global to find it.  Is this by design, or a bug?
