Direct linking to protected file redirects to NS login vs Website login!

Just found a somewhat serious problem IMO.

On our website in a protected area, we placed a file from the file cabinet. We then logged into the website and went to the where the link was and copied the URL of the file itself.

We then proceeded to logout, close the browser (to release any sessions), open the browser and paste the copied URL into the browser.

Expectations:
Because the user is not logged in we expected to be redirected to the website login page and then once logged in to proceed directly to the file (or the file begin downloading).
