purchase order messing up inventory count

When looking at an inventory item's history, I see that purchase orders that have been filled appear as a negative quantity.  I was never concerned about it, nor interested in how it works, as the count was always dead on.

BUT, my count is off on this one particular item.  And upon looking at the history, the purchase order that has been filled is showing a positive 6.  And I am exactly off by 6.  What the heck is going on??????
