Intermittent Change to User's UI Preferences

We have had a few reports of random changes to UI preferences.  The behavior is odd and I have not been able to reproduce it.  Has anyone else come across the following?  This happens while the user is logged in and navigates from one page/form to the next.

Colors and font size changing - user has to go to set preferences and re-save to return to the original setting.

Expanded/collapsed Tab views - user has to click the up/down arrow icon to restore tabs to the desired expanded/collapsed setting.
