How to search for opportunites

According to the global search docs you can use "p:blah" to search a prospect which works but if I try "op:blah" for an opportunity it doesn't find anything. However if I do "op:288" it will find the opportunity specific to this opportunity number. I have tried "op:%blah" with no results.

So what is the trick for narrowing my global search to opportunity records? Anyone know? I can't expect people to know the opportunity number.
