Bulk merge emails not emailing?

This seems to be an intermittent problem - sometimes bulk merge emails go thru, sometimes they don't.  My barometer is each day I email 20 customers with a followup email and consistently get back 5 or 6 responses, except of course when they don't receive the email.  I also weekly email customers from 50 weeks ago reminding them of their upcoming next Anniversary and I give them a code for $5 off.  I know by lack of responses that emails are not going thru and just now I bulk merge emailed myself and did not get the email.  For us
