can not delete email address

ok had a customer contact us saying the email address on my record os wrong, i'm going to let you know a new one but in the meantime please delete.

Tried to but it will not allow me, delete the address hit save and it says "you must enter a valid email address" well i don't want to anyone experienced this, got a work around?
