UPC code being set & unset by Netsute RANDOMLY

We do not use UPC codes, but every time we edit, ship, transaction, etc on an item the System Notes tab for that item shows a transaction "Unset UPC Code 28800 "

Based on our over 40,000 active inventory items and this is happening 1-5 times per day to each item.... we have A LOT of bad data in the system notes which is blocking our quick access to the real system notes.
