Formula Overide

Hi all

I have a problem. I use a firmula ({shipdate}) to take the date value from the "ship Date"  on the sales order form, and use it as the default field in a custom item column, on  the same form but i wish people to overide this value. I have tried but the formula overides the overide. LOL

The only option i think i have is to create another custom column that uses manual imput only.

I hope this is not the only option i have.
