Vendor Record Converted to Contact Record

I think I am going nuts.  I had a Vendor Record all set up and Saved.  I changed the name of the company within the Vendor Record because I realized I had typed it in wrong.  When I saved it, it turned it onto a Contact record!  My Vendor Record is gone.

How can I keep this from happening?
