Gift Certificate Code invalid

Hello,

I'm still testing out the gift certificate system and trying to get it live. However, when I enter gift certificate codes I sent to myself on a test purchase, I keep getting gift certificate code invalid. I have two codes, and they both come up as invalid. I went to list > accounting > gift certificate and got the authentication code from there. Do I have the right code?
