Customized Inventory Forms give unexpected error

I have customized an inventory form for my parent inventory level items.  We are currently creating item ids with the following format (3 levels):
Manufacturer : Product : Style

I have created 3 forms (Manufacturer Level, Product Level and Style Level).  I have hidden the fields that are not needed on each of the forms.

The manufacturer level form has the fewest fields, I only really need the itemid field.  (There are several fields/tabs that I have found that can not be removed)

We had removed the inventory tab from these forms, and received errors when specifying these forms in web services.  We can add items using web services and assign these forms, but when editing an item in the UI, we receive the following error:
