Dashboard Customization - Unable to remove added content

Hi,

    Has anyone else had problems with Dashboard customization?

    I have added (via customise this page--> Add content) a couple of items from the 'standard content' folder (KPI meter & Custom Search) that I wish to remove (so that my dashboard conforms to our 'standard' format for training purposes), however I am unable to do so. 
    Help text tells me to click on the cross in the top right hand corner of each item to remove/hide but this has no effect.  Any ideas?
