Searching Items by Vendor Name/Code

I may be wrong, but I thought that we could do a global search for items by 'Vendor Name/Code' prior to the release of 2008.2. Is there a way? It would be of great use for our office, as we often reference items by the vendor code.

We could do a more advanced item search, but the global search is much more convenient.

Any suggestions?
