Scheduled Script Queue unreliable

We have recently set up a complex scheduled script that runs over several script deployments overnight. The entire process takes several hours to run and actually uses several different scripts, all scheduled to run every night.

We have had a lot of problems with the scripts simply not firing. The queue randomly breaks down every week. The script is fairly critical, and now I'm starting to think Scheduled Script are extremely unreliable.

Does anyone else have bad experiences with Scheduled Scripts? Is this something I can hope will stabilize or do I need to start looking for another way to run the process?
