Editing item deletes part number

For a couple months or so now when entering sales order line items, if we go back into say line item 2 after entering several items and try to change the price, the item number deletes itself, while everything stays.  This is very frustrating and I encounter it on just about every order that I have to edit and usually once the item number deletes itself it is very hard to remember the item number.  I am using newest IE.  Any ideas.
