custom item fields bug(s)

I have items with various numbers on alternate images that are custom fields. I created similar items by using "save as" to create new item records, but that led to a problem...

Now some of my items have extra (and incorrect) alternate images, because as far as I can tell it is impossible to empty a custom item field. If you edit the record and erase the image name from the field (so it says "<type then tab>") it still does not remove the image from the item record.

I decided to do it with a CSV import, but netsuite exports the image URL and requires the image name for import, so...
